The top-seeded Islanders scored all three goals in the second of two overtime periods to top No. 2 Bishop's 12-11 last night at La Jolla High's Coggan Pool.
Coronado won with a rally that hinged on a tying shot that Ashley Young practiced but hadn't used in a game.
“We were definitely worried (at the overtime intermission),” said Young, a junior who had three goals. “Anybody would be. But we found our focus again. We said, 'This is what we've been training for.' ”
Coronado (23-9) prevailed in the fifth straight championship match against Bishop's despite a standout effort by Knights senior Dominique Sardo, who scored five goals and had three steals to set the section career record (486).
